More About the Pickle

Five Traditional Bihari Pickles • In Easy-to-Store 150g Jars

This is our 5-flavour Bihari pickle sampler, now packed in reusable 150g plastic jars — easier to store, easier to serve, and perfect for discovering what you truly love.

Each jar serves 4–7 meals, depending on how you eat.
Enough to explore properly — without committing to large jars.

Inside, you’ll find the same home-style, sun-matured pickles: made with mustard oil, hand-roasted spices, and traditional family recipes from Mithila, Bihar.

No shortcuts. No factory taste. Just honest flavours, one jar at a time.

🌶️ What’s Inside & How it Tastes

Garlic, Ginger & Green Chilli Mix Pickle

Taste: Medium spicy • Salty • Tangy • Chatpata

What this pickle is:
A traditional mixed pickle made with (almost) equal parts garlic, ginger, and green chilli, lightly sun-dried and matured in mustard oil.

Garlic gives depth, ginger adds warmth, and green chilli brings a clean, steady heat. Lemon juice balances the sharpness.

This is an everyday pickle — bold, aromatic, and addictive in small quantities.

Best with: Dal–chawal, roti, paratha, khichdi

Lal Mirch Bharua (Stuffed Red Chilli Pickle)

Taste: Spicy • Tangy • Deeply savoury

What this pickle is:
A classic stuffed red chilli pickle from Bihar and eastern UP, made using thick-skinned Banarasi red chillies.

Each chilli is carefully deseeded, then hand-stuffed with roasted spices and mustard oil. The chilli seeds are mixed back into the masala — adding texture and slow-building heat.

Sun-matured for days, this pickle is bold but balanced.
A little goes a long way.

Best with: Dal–chawal, poori–bhujia, dahi-choora

Jackfruit Pickle

Taste: Earthy • Gently spicy • Deeply satisfying

What this pickle is:
A traditional chunky pickle from Mithilanchal, Bihar, made using raw jackfruit that is steamed — not fried — before pickling.

The jackfruit is cut into pieces and lightly steamed until just tender. This step is essential: it softens the fibre without breaking the structure, so each piece absorbs spice while holding its shape. The steamed pieces are then marinated with salt and turmeric, left to release moisture, and mixed with hand-roasted whole spices and mustard oil.

Sun-dried for 10 days or more, this pickle is hearty and filling in a way most pickles are not. In many homes it replaces a vegetable on the plate entirely.

Best with: Dal–chawal, roti–sabzi, poori, khichdi

Tomato Garlic Chilli Mix Chutney

Taste: Tangy • Savoury • Gently spicy

What this pickle is:
A cooked chutney-style pickle, made by slow-cooking tomatoes with garlic, green chilli, mustard oil, and spices.

Unlike sun-dried achars, this relies on controlled cooking to reduce moisture and thicken naturally. The result is a spoonable, balanced chutney that sits between a pickle and a sauce.

Comforting, familiar, and incredibly versatile

Best with: Dal–chawal, roti, paratha, snacks

Grated Oal (Suran/Jimikand) Pickle – Oal Barobara

Taste: Tangy • Spicy • Gingery

What this pickle is:
A traditional Mithila pickle made using equal quantities of grated oal (suran), ginger, and green chilli — hence the local name Oal Barobara.

Lemon juice is added to reduce itchiness, and the mixture is sun-matured slowly so flavours settle without any raw bite.

There are no chunks — only finely grated ingredients that blend beautifully.

Best with: Roti, dal–chawal, poori, dahi-choora

💬 Why People Love This Sampler

“I knew the pickles would be good — but what if I ordered a big jar and it turned out too spicy for me?”

That’s the most common reason people choose this pack.

This sampler lets you:
✔️ Try five very different flavour profiles
✔️ Discover what suits your taste
✔️ Order full jars with confidence later

Some people like it fiery.
Some prefer garlicky.
Some don’t know what jackfruit or oal tastes like.

This is how they find out.

And once they do — they come back for the bigger jars.

🍽️ How to Eat & Explore

There’s no one right way — and that’s the joy of this pack.

A few pairings we love:

🥄 Khichdi + Garlic Ginger Green Chilli Mix
Soft, comforting khichdi with a sharp, spicy edge.

🫓 Paratha + Lal Mirch Bharua
Tuck a piece inside hot paratha — bold, nostalgic, unforgettable.

🍛 Dal–Chawal + Jackfruit or Oal Pickle
Turns a simple meal into something filling and satisfying.

It’s small, thoughtful, and deeply personal.
